Maria José Cunha is an artist with an experience of more than 10 years in painting that exhibits and organizes art events. She was born in Almada, and attended a Decorative Painting Course, at the "Instituto de Artes e Ofícios-Fundação Ricardo do Espirito Santo Silva, in Lisbon.
She started her painting lessons with the painter João Serém, then beginning to "really see", to produce her own colors, to free herself from the line and, from the Decorative Painting, she deepened the vision, tuned the colors and has discovered that in painting, everything is possible: lines, stains, textures, glazes.
She worked 3 years at the Painting Atelier of the Fundação Ricardo do Espirito Santo Silva, where she had the opportunity to learn with Painting Masters the old school techniques of painting and gilding.
The diversity of knowledge acquired throughout the years, gave her the technical skills and the freedom to originally express her own world on the surface.
She participated in several group exhibitions and one solo exhibition, and is represented in some private collections, in Portugal and outside, as well is represented in the permanent collection "Inspired by Surrealism", Curated by Rebecca Wilson, at the SAATCHI ART, under the heteronym of Marta Mendes.
